Jeremiah 49
Inspired thots
No one or nation will escape the Judgment of God. Everyone will need to account himself or herself to God for their lives at God's judgment. Hence, NOW is the time to REPENT and RETURN to God from our wicked and self-centered ways.
NOW is the time to DRAW CLOSE to God like never before; seeking Him in everything; giving our lives to Him for His glory. Let us not end up like the nations that are subjected to the wrath of God due to disobedience. Lord God Almighty, grant us Your grace and mercy to keep us on Your way!
A daily time out with the Lord Jesus, to hear Him speak to ME. I am asking the Lord to share HIS thoughts with ME, to teach me more about Himself, and how I can be drawn closer to Him... for 'His thoughts are not my thoughts and neither are His ways my ways' Isaiah 55:8,9. This blog is not a theological exegesis. This blog is to record down the INSIGHTS & INSPIRATIONS of God's Word to me; speaking LIFE into my life for Abundant life! :)

Defiance Against God Brings Consequences
Jeremiah 47 & 48
Inspired thots
The Lord's judgment will come swiftly on those who are disobedient to His Word and Ways. He will not keep silent forever on the wicked and rebellious. Hence, while there is time, let us repent to turn away God's wrath.
It does not augur well with us to defy God who is our Creator and Savior. He KNOWS the best for us. Let us trust HIM and not our own deeds and riches (48:7)
If we slack in doing HIS WORK, we are cursed (48:10). How necessary to be walking in total obedience to God in our lives. We CANNOT remain the same (48:11) and we cannot glory in our own glory (48:18)

The Lord Watches Over His People
Jeremiah 46
Inspired thots
The Lord is very good; He has all things in control. One can trust Him for the best although His actions cannot be fathomed and purposes understood.
Lord, You will avenge the enemy on our behalf; yet, we need to be purified for Your glory. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Praise Your Name, Jesus. Who can be against You? for You alone are great. You have the best plan for Your people who trust in You.

Acting in Defiance
Jeremiah 44 &45
Inspired thots
The people still acted in defiance against the Lord even when an exact word of warning is given to them. There was no remorse or repentance after hearing the word of judgment. The fear of the Lord has gone from within them. It was a great deception which the people indulged in as they sought the pleasures of the world. How futile is their understanding and values.
But God is merciful to Baruch and Jeremiah who were faithful to Him through thick and thin. He vindicates them for His glory.

Asking BUT not Obeying
Jeremiah 42 & 43
Inspired thots
The remnant sought the word of God and proclaimed to obey regardless of how it may sound. But when they did get the word, which was not favorable, they did not obey.
1) Empty promises. The people declared that they would obey God through hearing His word but did not. They were already bent on receiving only good bearings. Hence, they rejected unfavorable instructions.
2) Self reign. The people had already decided on what to do. They would only go with favorable instructions. They still want to be their own man and not a people after God.
3) Pretense. The people pretended that they are keen to follow God and to know Him. But they have their own hidden agenda and would not divert from their own foolishness which they deem more favorable. They were taking a risk.

Winds of Evil
Jeremiah 40 & 41
Inspired thots
Submitting to foreign invasion leadership may not necessarily be a bad thing when it is part of God's plan. The foreign power may be merciful to those remaining in the city and Jews did come back from their scatterings for all want to live peaceably.
However, some princes came back with ulterior motives; to seize power and be king. Gedaliah did not believe the rumour of evil against him. He had a kind heart. Yet the rumour proved true. Ishmael did rise up & murdered him. Thankfully, Johanan took initiative to drive out Ishmael.
I believe God knows best for His people; He knows the greed and evil in their hearts. Hence, He had them captured and sent to Babylon with a humble remnant living in the land.
How do we respond to winds of evil? We need to seek the Lord on it to be wise and safe for we really do not know man's heart which is basically evil. It is better to be under God's hand of grace and mercy.

Twist of Event
Jeremiah 39
Inspired thots
Great chaos and riots surrounded Israel as God's word came to pass with the invasion of king Nebuchadrezzar. But one amazing happening is that the king was intent to inflict pain and suffering upon king Zedekiah who disobeyed God's word of warning.
BUT king Nebuchadrezzar commanded that Jeremiah be treated well and allowed to live in the land among those who were allowed to remain. King Nebuchadrezzar commanded the captain of the guard to look after Jeremiah well and do him no harm, but deal with Jeremiah as Jeremiah tells him to. (v11). What a strange command by the enemy! Did king Nebuchadrezzar fear God? Did he hear about Jeremiah and his ministry?
We may never know until we meet up in heaven but one thing is for sure; God can use ANYONE who is willing and available to work out His will to His glory. This twist of event is an eye opener that an enemy is a vessel of the Lord to work out His purposes.
And God remembered the godly Ebedmelech, the Ethiopian who trusted in Him. A stranger living in a foreign land who fears God will not be in danger.

Fear Men More than God
Jeremiah 37 & 38
Inspired thots
King Zedekiah feared men more than he feared God. He invited Jeremiah to his presence to seek the Lord's words but he did not take action upon it as the given Word was not pleasant and the princes and people were displeased with the unfavorable prophecy.
King Zedekiah was also weak in his self confidence besides his faith. He would listen and submit to the desires of men than to God. He was easily swayed with men's requests or insistence. There is no leadership in him although he is in the position of power.
People of God must KNOW who their God is and who they are in Him to have their faith arise and not fear men. Romans 8:31 says,"If God is for us, who can be against us?" Better to fear God than man.

Repeated Warnings ~ God's Mercy
Jeremiah 36
Inspired thots
God is SO good and gracious; merciful and compassionate. He sends warning after warning to coax His people back to Him for blessings instead of judgment but the stubborn do not heed. Some fear the Word but no action was taken to heed it. Others blatantly abuse their power to reject the Word with violence through the burning of the scroll.
The different types of people responding to God's Word is liken to the parable of the Sower (Matt 13) who sowed to different types of soil; while some responded well, others were negatively towards the good news. Maybe the Word didnt seem like good news at that moment. It is good news for eternity. Maybe people are not willing to wait patiently for the better things to come. How sad!

A Stark Contrast
Jeremiah 35
Inspired thots
Praise God that there are godly and obedient people who fear and revere the Lord throughout their generations. How sad that God's own special people do not acknowledge or fear the Great I AM to turn from their wicked ways. Rather, it is the 'gentiles' who display a more faithful and reverent attitude.
God is pleased with those who stay on His ways; He will punish those who are stubborn in their own ways. Let us be wise and keep walking close to God. He calls us again and again back to His fold. It is foolishness not to heed His voice while it is possible to repent.

Liberty in God
Jeremiah 34
Inspired thots
God meant freedom for His people; yet they can be so greedy and selfish to impose captivity upon their fellow brethren. Hence, God made them captives to their enemies.
This is precisely the reason Jesus came to die on the cross; to save us from our sins and set us (captives) free. In God, we have liberty! (Romans 8:1,2) We are not slaves to anyone or anything but children of God who are privileged to have the best God has in mind and heart for us. Hallelujah!
Let us not turn back to our old sinful ways (2 Peter 2:22) once we have been enlightened by God of HIS Ways and decided to follow Him all the way.

The Grandeur of the King of kings
Jeremiah 33
Inspired thots
God has an awesome plan for His chosen. He has established a covenant through nature that ensures the faithfulness and steadfastness of His promises to His beloved. It reveals how great and majestic God is. There is not one like Him.
We can reciprocate by giving Him the best as He desires; a simple proclamation of His greatness as it impacts us. We can sing praises to Him aloud as thank offerings in the sanctuary. Indeed, the Lord is good for His steadfast love endures forever.

God's End Result
Jeremiah 32
Inspired thots
God's revelation of His heart's intentions through wise counsel is to bring His people under His covering. It is a wonderful opportunity for a self searching evaluation of our relationship with God to repent and return to the Lord for blessing and not for judgment.
God does not want His beloved to be judged; hence, the revelation of His heart should prompt one to turn back to Him before He executes the intended judgment. However, God is SO Good! He reveals His plans so that we can appeal to Him for forgiveness and change His plans. Such a merciful God. Hallelujah!
That is God's intended end result with revelations. He always means good and not harm for His loved ones.

The Glorious Day IS Coming
Jeremiah 30 & 31
Inspired thots
God continues to woo His people to return to Him; He has a wonderful plan in bringing back Israel to His fold. He has not forgotten them but in His good timing, He will work all things wonderfully for His people. Yes, O Mighty Father! How great is Your lovingkindness to Your people!
The Lord speaks of restoration and healing (30:17); there will be Reconciliation (30:21,22)
God's personal declaration of His unending love and faithfulness to His beloved (31:3).
How important to "set up waymarks for ourselves, make guideposts and consider well the highway, the road by which one travels" (31:21) Consider our ways to ensure they are God's ways. (Isa 55:8,9)
Our God is a Personal Loving God! (31:31-34) Hallelujah!

God's Best for Me
Jeremiah 29
Inspired thots
This is a very powerful chapter that reveals God's heart which has His people's best interests; if only we believe it.
As Malaysians celebrate Malaysia Day tomorrow (Sept 16), our situation is similar to that of Israeli exiles. We are foreigners in a land which God has brought us up in. If we pray for the land, it will be blest. We need to seek God with all our heart; when we do, we shall find Him and understand His best for us.
Focus and Faithfulness ... on God!

Hearing from God to Speak Rightly
Jeremiah 27 & 28
Inspired thots
Jeremiah vs Hananiah.. 2 prophets during the reign of king Zedekiah, king of Judah.
Jeremiah spoke as he heard from God clearly; Hananiah spoke to appease the people.
Good tidings are always favored over doom and woe BUT there is a time and place for that which is a warning. Let us heed the Word of God when given; else let us seek God personally to hear CLEARLY from God so that we KNOW exactly what to say and do.
When the Word spoken comes to pass, it shall be confirmed that the Word was from God. Would it be too late then? FAITH must arise to discern.

God's Great Mercy
Jeremiah 25 & 26
Inspired thots
God always give His people ample warnings before He passes judgment. He is so merciful to His people. He sends prophets to warn them and to return to Him. If they repent and return, He will turn from His wrath upon His people.
Although chp 25 exhibits God's great anger, chp 26 exhibits such great mercy of God. History shows how past kings responded to God. We should learn from them to stay close to God.

A God who is Very Fair in Judgment
Jeremiah 24
Inspired thots
Though the word of God through Jeremiah condemns Judah for her disobedience, yet God is merciful to those who are humble and dependent on Him. He judges fairly with a just sentence on both parties.
The people who are exiled from Judah are actually being kept safe by God from being destroyed by the enemy through the sword had they stayed in the city. The stubborn ones like king Zedekiah experiences a horrible death for not heeding the Lord.
How compassionate is our God who brings good to those who trust in Him. Personal promises are made in v6-7; and God is not a man that He should lie. Praise You, Lord Jesus!

False Prophets are Men Pleasers
Jeremiah 23
Inspired thots
It is a great responsibility to prophesy to people on behalf of the Lord. Great caution must be exercised to determine if it is really God's revelation to speak on His behalf.
This lesson is learnt from this chapter when the Lord chided the prophets of Israel who spoke to please and pacify the people telling them only good things and what they want to hear.
It is important to SEEK THE COUNSEL of GOD to speak for Him. v22 One needs to stand in His Council to hear Him correctly before speaking to the people.
Dear Lord Jesus, keep me away from the deceit of my heart and let me learn to wait in You more and more to be a useful vessel for You; even as Your mouthpiece. You can choose to speak to anyone through anyone; and it would be a great honor to be chosen to speak Your thoughts to build up Your people. Amen.

The Way of Life & the Way of Death
Jeremiah 21 & 22
Inspired thots
There are always TWO choices in life; the way of God and the way of the World. One points to LIFE and the other DEATH. Everyone must make this choice.
Each choice comes with consequences which are clearly written in the Bible from past events. Will we learn and understand to make the wise choice? Only God's way is the Way of Life.... JESUS is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6)

Pushing On for the Lord Despite Diversities
Jeremiah 19 & 20
Inspired thots
How discouraging Jeremiah must have felt with the people around him cursing and not hearing the Word of God through him. Yet he pushed on with his calling.
In modern day times, it may be equivalent to the pastor or any full time worker for the Lord where His words are falling on deaf ears. It is hard to be serving the Lord passionately today as it was in Jeremiah's days. However, one truth is noted in this situation.... Jeremiah's warnings from the Lord was not well received by Israel. The same with today, as Jesus mentioned, a prophet is not welcomed in his hometown. "Familiarity breeds contempt".

Let the Potter Have His Way
Jeremiah 18
Inspired thots
As in Isaiah 64:8, Jeremiah 18:4 speaks about the Potter ~ God the Creator! A reminder of who God is to us; He is the Potter, we are the clay in His hand. It is best to leave Him to mold us as He sees fit.
Just like an ordinary potter who believes in his own skills and insights, God has His plans in shaping each of His children to His glory. We must learn to be flexible in His hands and not want to wiggle out due to impatience and discomfort. We must await the time of our glory in God's hands. Let us not be wise in our own eyes to be what we want to be for we cannot see beyond the horizon.

Comfort in the Midst of Chastisement
Jeremiah 17
Inspired thots
How wonderful is our God who chides but comforts at the same time! How true is HIS word that 'He does not chide all the time'. He is mindful of our frailty; He only wants us to return to Him for blessings.
Hence, the Lord searches the heart and knows its deceitfulness. He searches the mind and tries the heart to check how we would respond to Him. Have mercy, O Lord! Empower us not to fail You.
Help me set YOU on the glorious throne in the place of my sanctuary (v12).
Thank YOU for Your word of healing and restoration. You are MY PRAISE! (v14)

The Powerful Name of God
Jeremiah 16
Inspired thots
There is IMMENSE POWER in the NAME of GOD. The chapter ends with this extreme power in the words 'THE LORD'.
It is the Name of God ~ the LORD ~ that would cause all to fear and tremble. But many still do not get it. Many are still blur about the power of this name; because there is no personal encounter with the owner. Many are still reveling in their own stubbornness, wickedness, self-centredness; hence, they do not recognize the Power of God's name... perhaps until it is too late.
Will we not be wise and learn the power of God? A simple truth with immense power that can be so easily lost when we do not grasp or hold on to it.
I declare the power of God's name in my life to exhibit His glory. God's name ~ the Lord ~ is my strength and my stronghold; my refuge in the day of trouble. v19

Rejection of God Leads to Rejection by God
Jeremiah 15
Inspired thots
When we do not obey the voice of God prompting us to return to Him, we are rejecting Him to be Sovereign in our lives. The time WILL COME when HE WILL REJECT those who reject Him. How merciful is God to wait for our repentance NOW!
History is a good teacher to reveal how man is; how God will respond. God is faithful... v19 "If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me." We must learn to persevere at difficult times until God vindicates us.
Vindicate us quickly, O Lord! Let not the enemy triumph over us! Amen.

Take Heed
Jeremiah 14
Inspired thots
God speaks through His prophets to warn people but there can be false prophets; prophets who speak WHAT people WANT to HEAR. If one aspires to SPEAK for God, be sure it is God prompting.
Prophets are called to speak on behalf of God; to warn people of their wicked ways and to return to God. It is not always blessings and prosperity. God is angry too with His people for their stubbornness and idolatry. He sends prophets to warn them so that they will return to Him to be blessed.
Do we HEED what God says to us through others who warn us?
Or do we want to hear only the good? KEEP THE END IN MIND.

What is Your Lot in Life?
Jeremiah 13
Inspired thots
God chides His people for their unfaithfulness. He knows that they are stubborn and do not want to change. He has prepared specific lots for His people (v25). The stubborn would fall into His wrath at the end of the day while the righteous would enjoy God's blessings.
It is not God's desires to punish His people; His heart grieves for them but their stubbornness causes them suffering. Do not be wise in our own eyes; seek the Lord while He may be found.
